North West Migrants Forum

PRESS RELEASE – Discover An Intercultural NI Film Premiere at Playhouse

Family Friendly Free Event!

Plahouse Derry

Saturday, March 30 will see the North West Migrants Forum celebrate another milestone with the film premiere highlighting the many wonderful achievements of the young people who took part in the Discover an Intercultural NI project throughout 2018-2019 being shown at the Playhouse in the city.

The family-friendly celebration is also a culmination of a series of activities delivered throughout the months of April 2018-March 2019 and will be held from 11am to 3pm.

Discover an Intercultural NI project worked with eight post-primary schools across the Derry City and Strabane District Council Area to strengthen social cohesion and inclusion by improving attitudes between young people from minority ethnic communities (BME) and young people from majority cultures.

The project itself focused on cultural diversity and inclusion around the DCSDC area. Presenting testimonials and experiences from project participants, the event will also feature the screening of our Discover an Intercultural NI short film and the official launch of our 2017 Shared Stories Safe Spaces policy brief.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Lilian Seenoi-Barr said: ‘This will be a wonderful celebration of all that is good about intercultural activity in Northern Ireland. I would encourage  everyone out there to come along to what will be a great celebration in a family-friendly environment to witness what these young people have achieved.’

In addition to testimonials and presentations, the event will boast a line-up of exciting activities and local musical talent for the whole family to enjoy.

Also featured will be a children’s craft and entertainment corner, Intercultural performances by St Cecilia’s Irish dancers, Highland dancers, hip-hop fusion dance performed by our very own young cultural ambassadors and intercultural foods will bring voice and flair to the theme of this day.

This is a family friendly free event and it is open to the public! We look forward to welcoming you all!
