Black Heritage in NI; Hidden History project – Podcast series
About the project
The Black Heritage Project is a community-focused initiative that explores and celebrates Black history, heritage, culture and contributions through education, engagement and creative activities. The project aims to increase awareness and understanding of Black history while encouraging dialogue, inclusion and community participation by unearthing the contributions made by Black people to Northern Ireland and recognising the existing historical links between Northern Ireland and histories of slavery, colonialism, segregation and Black innovation.

The project also advocates for the inclusion and teaching of Black history and heritage within schools and educational settings, supporting greater representation, understanding and inclusive learning opportunities for young people.
The wider project includes exhibitions, workshops, educational activities, public events and digital content designed to engage diverse audiences across communities, schools and organisations.
About the podcast series
As part of the project, we are developing a 10-episode podcast and video series that will explore Black history, heritage, lived experiences, culture and community conversations through interviews, discussions and storytelling.
The series aims to create engaging and accessible content for a wide audience while promoting education, dialogue and representation. Episodes may feature community leaders, artists, educators, activists, researchers and individuals with lived experience.
Content will be shared across digital platforms, including our website, YouTube, social media and other communication channels.
