Even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the over 600 participants in North West Migrants Forum’s Second Annual Family Fun Day in Brooke Park on Saturday last.
Families from across the city and district turned out in their droves in what was a record-breaking turnout for the fantastic day of free entertainment and food, that included a host of activities catering for everyone.
The event, supported by the National Lottery Community Fund and the Housing Executive, served up a fun-filled four hours with a special intercultural barbecue thrown in for good measure.
Hosted by the North West Migrants Forum, the ‘Discover-Connect-Belong’ Family Fun Day and Friendship Club set out with aims to support connections and meaningful relations between existing and new communities in the local council area and this lived up to everyone’s expectations.
Speaking after Saturday’s event, Lilian Seenoi-Barr, Director, NWMF said:

“What a wonderful fantastic days fun, that was had by all. I cannot believe how many families we had through the doors of Brooke Park on the day. Only an estimate at the minute but we believe we may have had over 650 signing in for the fun day. This well exceed all our expectations and on behalf of the North West Migrants Forum I want to say a big thank you to all our funders, as well as our volunteers who worked so tirelessly on the day to make it such a great success. All records were broken on last year’s event.
There was both indoor and outdoor events and included workshops, food, bouncy castles, football, a barbecue, music, face painting, drumming, dancing and even song at Saturday’s event with things wrapping up at 4pm after a long day’s activities.
