Edel is Integration Co-ordinator at Derry’s Oakgrove Integrated Primary School and Nursery. According to her colleagues she is a role model for celebrating differences and promoting respect of multi-cultural traditions within the school community. Edel was successful in leading Oakgrove as the first school in NI to receive the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award. In order to develop good relations she then introduced a multi-cultural curriculum focus for pupils and staff throughout the whole school. She has put many unpaid hours into researching different cultures and faiths, going above and beyond to make sure all the school’s families are represented and included.
