The first in a series of important workshops aimed at creating space for honest conversations among migrant and black men will begin in the north west migrants forum next month and run throughout may.
Titled ‘trauma-informed training: building respect, belonging & integration for migrant and black men in northern ireland’, the sessions will be delivered by counsellor and community development worker lekan ojo-okiji abasi, head of better life talking therapy cic.

“we are proud to launch a trauma-informed training programme designed specifically for migrant and black men in northern ireland, creating space for honest conversations, personal growth, and real understanding,” the community development specialist added.
The seven-session programme will also examine:
- understanding trauma and its impact
- building trust and respectful relationships
- navigating life, work, and culture in northern ireland
- communication, identity, and emotional wellbeing
- rights, responsibilities, and the law
- challenging harmful norms and building positive masculinity
Lekan ojo-okiji abasi added “this is more than training – it’s about empowerment, reflection, and belonging.
