Fundraiser launched to help family give their mother the farewell she deserves

Takazvida Makoni surrounded by her family. Ms Makoni sadly passed away recently and plans are being made to take her ashes to her native Zimbabwe.

A fundraising drive has been launched to assist the family of a Zimbabwean woman who passed away recently in Belfast.

Takazvida Makoni was well known in her adopted city as a warm and kind individual. Her death has left a huge void in the lives of those who knew her best.

Following her passing, North West Migrants Forum and Committee on the Adminstration of Justice staff member Shannon Doherty has established a Just Giving page to assist with the transport of Ms Makoni’s ashes back to Zimbabwe.

Appealing to anyone who can afford to, to make a donation, Shannon said, “I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but also with hope, hope that together, we can support a family in need during one of life’s most painful moments. On behalf of the Makoni family, we are fundraising in tragic circumstances.

“Our beloved sister Takazvida Makoni was a warm, kind, and gentle soul whose life touched many. Tragically Takazvida has passed, leaving behind four devoted sons who loved her deeply. The pain of losing a mother is immeasurable and for these young, kind men, having the opportunity to return Takazvida’s remains to her homeland in Zimbabwe and lay her to rest in the soil she cherished has become their deepest wish.

“However, the financial burden of transporting her ashes, travel expenses, and all the arrangements needed to honour her last wish is beyond what her sons can manage alone in such unexpected circumstances.

“This is why we are reaching out to you – friends, extended family, kind- hearted individuals, and compassionate souls around the world to help make this final journey possible.”

Why Your Support Matters

Takazvida’s boys want to:

  • Take their mother’s ashes back to Zimbabwe
  • Hold a meaningful ceremony in the place she called home
  • Honour her memory with dignity and love
  • Find a sense of closure in the presence of the land where her roots lie

For many of us, saying goodbye to a loved one is already difficult – to do, so from afar without the proper farewell is unimaginably painful.

How You Can Help

Every contribution – no matter the size will go directly towards:

  • Travel and accommodation costs for the family
  • Transportation of Takazvida’s ashes
  • Ceremony arrangements in Zimbabwe
  • Any necessary legal and administrative costs

Your gift will not merely be a donation – it will be a compassionate act of service that brings comfort and peace to a grieving family.

If you’ve ever been touched by Takazvida’s kindness, if you believe in the power of community, or if you simply wish to help a family in pain – please consider donating and sharing this with others.

Together, we can help Takazvida’s sons find healing, closure, and the dignity of giving their mother the farewell she deserves.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, support and generosity.
