Cricket fun day will celebrate diversity and inclusion

September 16, 2025

United Against Racism has teamed up with North West Cricket Union to celebrate the incredible contribution to diversity and inclusion that the sport has brought to the region.

Spokesperson Davy McAuley praised the efforts of the local Cricket Union and clubs for bringing so many together through sport.

“Cricket is one of the most played team sports in the world. Across the Indian Subcontinent cricket dominates the sporting and cultural world.

“North West Cricket Union has embraced those who have come here from all over the world and provided opportunities for participation at all ages of this great sport.

“We want to celebrate this and provide an opportunity for those who want to play cricket and meet people with similar passions and interests.

“At a time when the voice of the racists seems to be the loudest, events like this celebrating the power of sport to overcome division are all the more important.”

The event is due to take place at Ardmore Cricket Club this coming Saturday, September 20.

“We thank Ardmore CC for all they have done for us,” Davy McAuley added. “However we may have to move the event to the indoor cricket centre at Bready Cricket Club as the weather has been against us.

“Details of any changes can be found on United Against Racism Derry and NW social media.

“The event will start at 11am. There will entertainment for children and food and soft drinks will be provided for all.”

Mr McAuley said that transport to and from the event can be arranged for those who pre-register.

“Everyone is welcome. We believe that sport should be for everyone.“
