FOLLOWING on from the success of last year the North West Migrants Forum’s family fun day will return to Brooke Park this Saturday.
Colour, culture and community will once again be the key components of what has become an important date on Derry’s social calendar.
Last year over 300 people turned out to enjoy face painting, a magic show, circus skills and bouncy castles, as well as a free barbecue.
It will be a similar picture again this Saturday, July 19, with another packed programme of events being drawn up.
As before, at the heart of the day out will be an opportunity for locals to meet their neighbours, learn about different cultures and, most importantly, to have fun.

Looking ahead to the community-centred event, Mrs Barr said, “Our annual fun day is all about bringing people together. It’s a chance for people of every background, tradition, religion, age and ability to come along, enjoy themselves and spend time with one another in a welcoming environment.
“In light of the recent unrest experienced in parts of Northern Ireland, this year’s event also offers an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those who have come here seeking safety after fleeing war, conflict, persecution and hardship.
“Our city has a long-standing reputation for compassion and community spirit and we hope to see that reflected once again as local residents and families from minoritised communities come together, make new connections and celebrate everything that brings us together.”
Communications Officer with the North West Migrants Forum, Conor Sharkey, said he is looking forward to seeing another fantastic turnout at Brooke Park, building on the success of last year’s event. He encouraged people of all ages and backgrounds to come along, stressing that everyone is welcome.
“We’d love to see as many people as possible join us. The only thing anyone needs to bring is a smile.
“Our team has put a huge amount of work into creating a fun programme and we’re really pleased with how everything has come together. We have been keeping our fingers crossed for good weather and it looks like we may just get our wish. But rain or shine, we’ll have plenty of cover with our marquee and gazebos, so everyone can enjoy the day.”
The North West Migrants family fun day in Brooke Park will take place on July 19, from 1pm to 4pm and is open to everyone, regardless of background.
