THE North West Migrants Forum is honoured to announce author and activist Chantelle Lunt as compère of the 2024 Advancing Race Equality Awards.
Chantelle previously co-hosted the awards along with Irish author and journalist Tim Brannigan. But on March 6 she will be centre stage on her own in the glittering surrounds of the Ebrington Hotel.
“The Advancing Race Equality Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible work being done to promote racial equality and social justice and I’m proud to be part of this,” said the Liverpudlian.
Born in Toxteth, Chantelle Lunt is among the UK’s most powerful voices in the fight for social justice.
As well as being a writer, commentator and academic, she is an elected representative for Knowsley and an advocate of racial equality, having experienced racism throughout her life, particularly during her service as a police officer.
Using her own experiences as well as her knowledge gained through study for her MA in Criminology and Social Policy at Liverpool John Moores University, she works with local and national organisations to decolonise community, work and education spaces, promoting racial literacy and expanding knowledge of black history.
She is also the founder of the Merseyside Alliance for Racial Equality, a non-profit organisation committed to promoting racial equality across Merseyside through grassroots community-led education and engagement work.
With shortlisting currently under way for the next Advancing Race Equality Awards, Chief Executive of the North West Migrants Forum, Lilian Seenoi Barr, said she was looking forward to meeting up with the woman who helped make the 2022 awards such a success.
“I am thrilled that Chantelle has agreed to come back and host our awards,” Mrs Barr said.
“We have been friends for a number of years now and it will be lovely to catch up with her again.
“Chantelle has such a deep knowledge of social justice and as the founder of Merseyside BLM Alliance she provides invaluable insights into how race, education and justice are deeply interconnected.
“As the holder of many roles, she is an extremely busy lady. So for her to agree to take time out of her schedule to fly in from Liverpool to host our awards, it means a lot to us and will add greatly to what is going to be a very special evening.”
Reciprocating the kind words, Ms Lunt added, “I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the Advancing Race Equality Awards and to be teaming up with Lilian and the North West Migrants Forum once again for such an inspiring event.”
