Would you like to learn journalism skills and produce stories by VIEWdigital?

ONLINE news platform VIEWdigital is appealing to women from a refugee or migrant background to get involved in its new Community Journalism project.

A finalist in last year’s Advancing Race Equality Awards, VIEWdigital is a non-profit community media organisation with a strong social conscience.

Its co-founder, Una Murphy, said the Community Journalism project will offer training in producing media content, guided by media professionals, to trainee journalists from two marginalised groups – people with disabilities and women from a refugee or migrant background.

“The course will take place over a six-week period and the multimedia stories will be published on the VIEWdigital website,” Ms Murphy said.

“Let us help you reach your potential through this learning opportunity, with a view to furthering diversity, inclusion and equality within journalism.

“At a recent pilot workshop for this training, held during the Northern Ireland Human Rights Festival, one participant, an asylum seeker, said she had ‘got knowledge of mechanisms and skills in making videos’ and the ‘use of different images to keep the recipient’s attention’.”

“If you would like to take part in the Community Journalism training please contact Una Murphy at unamurphy@viewdigital.org with a one-page outline of the story you’d like to tell and why you’re a good person to tell it.

“Our first media workshop is pencilled in for the end of May 2025,” Ms Murphy added.
