Traditional Tea Dance to go African for Black History Month

OUR Chief Executive Lilian Seenoi Barr is adding some African flavour to Derry City and Strabane District Council’s famous Tea Dances.

The Tea Dances are a staple of the Mayor’s year in office and are an opportunity to meet members of the public and enjoy a chat and dance over a cuppa and a bun.

But Mayor Barr has added a twist to her Tea Dances by incorporating a number of themed events into the schedule.

Among them is an African and American Tea Dance in October (Black History Month).

“During my year in office I want to add an extra dimension by having a number of themed events,” said the Mayor.

“It will be an opportunity for people to listen to some new music and, if they want, dress up to help celebrate the theme.

“I’d love to see you all there in the events in the Guildhall, St Patrick’s Hall and the Alley so get in touch with my office now to register your interest ahead of the first event in September.”

A new registration list for the Mayor’s Tea Dance is being compiled by the Mayor’s Office so anyone hoping to attend must register their details by contacting them on 02871 376527 or emailing mayor@derrystrabane.com.
