Smiling for a selfie at the Advancing Race Equality Awards 2023. Who will be smiling this year? Everyone, as a fantastic evening is guaranteed.

While dozens of nominations have already been received, Media and Communications Officer Conor Sharkey said there was always room for more.

“We are delighted with the response so far with people from all sectors being put forward for our awards.

“There is never a bad time though to hear the inspirational stories of people working to make the world a better place for all of us. Often this work is done quietly and without the desire for recognition.

“The truth is though that people do deserve recognition, they deserve to be rewarded for going the extra mile.

Comedian Black Paddy had the audience in stitches with his antics, including DUP MLA Gary Middleton.

“That is one of the reasons we introduced the Advancing Race Equality Awards in the first place – to say thank you. But we also feel that by highlighting the work people are doing, it will encourage others to do the same. From little acorns grow great oaks, as the old saying goes.”
