Job Advertisement – Programmes Manager

THE North West Migrants Forum (NWMF) is recruiting a Programmes Manager to lead the successful delivery of its ‘Black Heritage in NI: Hidden History’ project. This post is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund and is offered on a fixed-term basis until August 2027.

Responsibilities

The Programmes Manager will lead the successful implementation of the ‘Hidden History’ project, co-ordinating the programme’s activities, managing project dependencies and prioritising collaborative partners. The project aims to develop and deliver innovative, collaborative programmes with a focus on diverse African histories and heritage, including pre-colonial African histories, global and local connections, and a shared African-British-Irish history and heritage.

Key responsibilities include strategic budgeting and resource planning, reporting, and management of the programme and its projects, including the development and delivery of operational, financial, contractual, and governance frameworks to ensure successful collaboration and the timely delivery.

This role requires:

The postholder must have a strong understanding of Black History and heritage, and be an exceptional leader in change management. They will have at least three years’ experience of, and a proven track record in, leading and managing projects focused on Black and minoritised people.

In particular, they will need to excel in:

  • Project Management

Delivering a sustainable project delivery model; budget oversight, managing dependencies, progress tracking, negotiating with stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder and Event Management

Working and building effective relationships with partner organisations, including workshop facilitators, researchers and volunteers; organising events and exhibitions; attending external events to promote the project.

  • Research, evaluation and reporting

Evaluating project outputs and outcomes; providing reports to funders on key measures, e.g. engagement, quality indicators such as Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL); working with the internal communications team to promote all aspects of the project.

 

The Programmes Manager is a key member of NWMF’s staff team and will contribute to the strategic management of the organisation, including building for new programmes and projects. They will be a strong advocate for NWMF’s mission, aims and activities.

Essential Criteria: 

Education

Honours Degree (min. RQF Level 7 or NFQ Level 8) in a relevant field (e.g. humanities, research, community development, social sciences or equivalent).

Qualification or commensurate experience in project management.

Qualification or experience in community relations, community development work, or similar.

Excellent competency with information technology, including Excel spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint, database, and customer relationship management systems.

Experience and attributes 

  • At least 3 years’ experience of leading and managing projects focused on Black and minoritised people, with an excellent knowledge and skills in race, diversity, and equality issues.
  • Agile and adaptable mindset with the ability to implement creative work approaches.
  • Track record of managing complex, multidisciplinary projects to time and budget, working independently in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent business planning, contract and resource management skills, with an agile and adaptable mindset,
  • Demonstrable research and analytical skills, forward thinking, an ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Proven experience of developing and maintaining productive collaborative relationships with stakeholders, ideally including partners in African communities.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) in English, networking, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Experience and proven track record of programme reporting on contracts and grants, with an understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively with others to achieve success, with proven motivational and supportive people management skills.

Salary 

£40,221 per annum.

 Location

North West Migrants Forum is based in Derry city centre. although we are open to a discussion with the successful applicant about remote/hybrid working. Some travel (within Northern Ireland, and potentially to Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland) will in any event be required as part of the role.
