Shared Stories Safe Spaces: An Intercultural Northern Ireland

We are currently recruiting 27 young people aged between 11-18 years (9 from Ethnic Minorities, 9 Catholic & 9 Protestant Communities) to take part in an exciting new project we are launching this summer! This project is funded until March 2018.

“Shared Stories Safe Spaces: An Intercultural Northern Ireland” is aimed at improving attitudes between young people of different backgrounds.

Together we will increase community knowledge around migration and immigration, encourage mutual respect and understanding of other communities to highlight the issues around racism, hate crime and discrimination.

The project will be led by you, the young people; by working in groups you will have the creative lead in exploring the topic of migration, cultural identity, interconnectedness and multiculturalism. Groups will be formed based on creative preferences (photography, videography or painting) rather than ethnicity.

You will be supported to use your creativity and innovation to research the topic of migration, present your findings, showcase and exhibit your work, reach out to your family, friends and communities to promote and put into practice the idea of a peaceful and welcoming Northern Ireland.

The Shared Stories, Safe Space Project will kick off with an action packed, fun filled 2 day camping residential on 18th-19th August at Carrowmena Activity Centre.

There will also be migration treasure hunts to the Ulster American Folk Park and the Titanic Museum in Belfast.

We will be working with the University of Ulster’s Community Youth Work and Sociology Department for research consultation and Policy Brief including one Dissemination workshop.

We will be running groups and various workshops which will give everyone involved in the project the opportunity to meet up, make lasting friendships and have fun in a safe, shared space.

This programme is supported by The Executive Office through the Central Good Relations Fund.

There will be opportunities for more young people to take part in this project. Please register your Interest for your chance to take part, using the form below :
